Man, you should see the football! I was chilling at Fane's terrace, drinking a beer and watching Czechia vs. South Africa. Total madness, bro! I said I'd throw a bet on it, 'cause Czechia has good players, but I didn't know what was coming. Listen up, boss, this story is for the fans!
In Group A of the 2026 World Cup, Czechia played a big game and beat South Africa 1-0. The goal came fast, in the 6th minute, through Sadilek. What a goal, bro, he slotted it straight into the net, South African keeper Williams didn't even blink. The match was played Friday, June 19, at 7:00 PM on Digi Sport 1 – yeah, I had my eyes glued to the screen like a kid watching cartoons.
For both teams, this was a do-or-die match. They had lost their first games: South Africa got destroyed by Mexico 2-0, and Czechia lost 2-1 to South Korea. If they drew, they'd be stuck on one point and qualification might become impossible – the top two from each group and the best eight third-placed teams advance to the round of 32. So Czechia came out like beasts.
Czechia dominated the start: Schick missed a huge chance in the first minute! Then Sadilek opened the scoring in the 6th minute, and from there they controlled the game. South Africa had a chance in the 45+4th minute, when Maseko shot at keeper Kovar after his mistake – could have been 1-1, but it didn't happen. The South Africans got two yellow cards: Mokoena in the 33rd, Mbatha in the 40th. They played rough, but it didn't matter.
For South Africa, the situation is critical. Zero points after two matches, qualification is almost impossible. And they have more problems: Themba Zwane is suspended for three matches after a red card against Mexico, and Syabonga Ngezana wasn't called up due to injuries. Coach Hogo Bross used the lineup: Williams - Mudau, Mbokazi, Okon, Modiba - Mokoena, Mbatha, Adams - Maseko, Rayners, Apollis. Man, I don't know what they'll do, but I think it's pretty much over for them.
Czechia, coached by Miroslav Koubek, started with: Kovar - Hranac, Holes, Krejci - Coufal, Sadilek, Darida, Cerv, Soljka - Hlozek, Schick. The subs included Soucek, Provod, or Kuchta – they've got a bench, they've got players. And now they have 3 points, same as Mexico and South Korea – they lead the group! South Africa is in 4th place with 0 points. The last group matches decide everything.
So I'm off to tell Brian how I won a bet on Czechia – he says South Africa is his favorite team, but when he hears about Sadilek's goal, his eyes go wide and he shuts up.
