Bro, sit down and grab a beer, 'cause I've got news that'll make you lose your mind! Victor Ponta, the guy who was prime minister and did it all, just joined the parliamentary group 'United for Romania' in the Chamber of Deputies. Yeah, that's right, the group that formed this spring after the POT party was reorganized. And he doesn't stop there! The day before Eugen Tomac was designated prime minister, Ponta launched a harsh attack on USR, saying their ministers wreaked havoc with European funds. I don't like Ponta myself, but this time he might have a point – let's be serious, it's not the first time we hear about European money going down the drain.
Now, let me tell you how he got into the group. Ponta was elected deputy in December 2024 on PSD lists, in Dâmbovița county. But in March 2025 he was kicked out of the party by Ciolacu himself, because he ran for president. You see, PSD was backing Crin Antonescu, so they threw Ponta out. A month before the exclusion, Ponta had asked to be suspended from PSD, because he couldn't support Antonescu. And so, the man ended up in the 'United for Romania' group, led by Răzvan Mirel Chiriță, with vice-leader Daniel Grofu and secretaries Călin-Florin Groza and Gabriela Porumboiu. Among the members are Maria Cernit, Codruța-Maria Corcheș, Anamaria Gavrilă, and others – a long list of names you won't remember even if you down a bottle of moonshine from mother-in-law Veta.
But the truly explosive part is Ponta's attack on USR. He says USR ministers harmed Romania through the management of European funds and defense programs. And he's not talking nonsense! Ponta claims that funds from the SAFE program, worth 16 billion euros, were directed to companies outside the country, instead of going to our defense industry, for anti-drone and anti-missile systems. Man, I saw at Fane's on the terrace how everyone's talking about this money, and it seems to me too that they're pulling a fast one on us. Then, Ponta also says that due to USR decisions in 2021, Romania will receive only 10 out of the 30 billion euros allocated through the PNRR, half of which are loans. It's pure madness!
Ponta posted the message on social media, right during the negotiations for forming the new government. He said that USR was brought to power to 'direct the money to their masters outside Romania' and that 'we were robbed and fleeced again.' Heavy accusations, bro! Now, I don't know how much is true, but looking at what's happening in this country, nothing surprises me anymore. Who pays? Us, the ordinary Romanians, struggling to get a penny from the state. Until then, I'm going to call Fane to have a beer and comment on how they're stealing our European funds under our noses while we watch the game.
