Boss, hold on tight because I've got news that'll make you realize how screwed we are with financial planning! Almost a third of Romanians, that's 29%, have no clue what they'd do if they get sick or have an accident and can't bring money home anymore. I mean, bro, they just sit there thinking, "Ah, it'll be fine." How can it be fine? I learned the hard way: two years ago, I got a hernia from carrying tiles and was stuck at home for a month. Mioara had to work overtime at Lidl and borrow from grandma. So no more joking around with these plans.

These stats are from UNSAR, the National Union of Insurance Companies - the very ones always pushing insurance down our throats. They say 47% of Romanians rely on family if something happens, 4% more than last year. Basically, we're putting our hope in the brother-in-law or the mother-in-law. Sure, my mother-in-law Veta brings pickles and moonshine from Roșiori, but I don't think she'd help with the BMW payments. And 36% say they have savings, but let's be real: those savings are Ioana's child allowance and whatever Mioara stashes in the piggy bank. So 17% have life insurance, up 6% from last year - a sign that Romanians are starting to wake up.

Alexandru Ciuncan, UNSAR's boss, says it's good that more people are getting insurance, but 29% without a plan is a lot. Well, of course, man, because financial education here is like learning to drive on the Transfăgărășan after downing a shot of plum brandy. The number of life insurance contracts has passed 2.2 million, but the protection gap is 165,400 lei per family. That means if you kick it, your family is short that much cash. For me, if the BMW breaks down, at least I have comprehensive insurance, but if I break down, who pays the loan to Relu?

Roxana Băluță, a specialist at UNSAR, says we need financial education and public policies. Yeah, bro, but until then, I learned from Fane at the terrace: "Put some money aside, because winter is coming." This barometer is done every year, so we can see how we keep messing up. UNSAR has 22 companies that hold over 90% of the market - basically, they control everything. But at least they tell us the truth: we're poorly prepared. So listen to me: make a plan, because you never know when the bear will get you... I mean, illness or accident. I'm off to explain to Mioara why I got life insurance, so maybe she'll believe it's not just another expense!
