Bro, hold on tight because I found out something good! I was sitting quietly with a coffee, after dropping Brian off at school, and I come across a statement from Rafila saying that we, Romanians, are paying penalties of about 2 million euros per month to Pfizer for that vaccine contract. Yeah, you heard right, 2 million euros per month! Ice cold, bro! And I was thinking Mioara was expensive when she tells me to cut expenses, but look, the state is even more talented.
Rafila said on Marius Tucă's show, on Gândul, that the amount is estimated, but the ruling is enforceable, meaning we're already paying. He said they've already paid, they've been calculated by the court. And when Tucă asked if they appealed, Rafila said he doesn't know for sure, but he suspects they did - because it's the obligation of public institutions to appeal. Well, bro, if it's an obligation, why don't you know? Like that, blindly, we send the money to Pfizer and that's it? That's not how it works, bro!
After that, Rafila also talked about that hantavirus, which supposedly would be a new pandemic. He said clearly: "No, let's not exaggerate. It cannot be a pandemic." And he added that there are people who find such a topic and try either to get attention or to scare people. Well, good that he calms us down, but for the penalties he can't find a solution? Man, I say it's like in our building: one neighbor breaks the elevator and we all pay. Same with Pfizer - we bought vaccines, now we pay penalties, and we still pay.
And so, in a country where inflation eats our installments and the government cuts pensions, we also give 2 million per month to a pharma company. Who pays? Well, us, the suckers. I for one don't buy this story that it couldn't be done otherwise. Caragiale would be proud of us: "Long talk, man's poverty." Until then, I'm going to explain to Mioara why we don't hold on to money - because the state does like us, throws money out the window.
