Bro, sit down and hold on tight, 'cause I saw a good one! Some construction engineers did an experiment in Bucharest that looked like a Hollywood movie. They intentionally set fire to two model houses with wooden structures, to see how they resist fire. Yeah, you heard right, they set them on fire with their own hands, under the eyes of the firefighters. Crazy, right?

One of them was made like Romanians do: no protection at all, from dry planks and cheap insulation. The other, on the other hand, had all the fireproof systems: wood treated with special solution, double drywall, sealed joints, and a thermal barrier like a Star Wars shield. The result? The first turned to ashes in 45 minutes, the second remained livable. Can you imagine, bro?

Marius Șoflete, the engineer who led the thing, explained in plain language: treated wood is red so you can see it's fireproof, and the drywall boards and that incombustible insulation don't let fire pass from one floor to another. He said you can hold a flame on it forever, it won't burn. To me, it seems safer than my apartment in Berceni, where the neighbor on the 3rd floor smokes in bed and I pray the balcony doesn't catch fire.

Eduard Ștefan, the spokesperson for ISU B-IF, gave us the numbers: last year, in Bucharest-Ilfov, there were 854 fires, and the most common cause - electrical short circuit. Exactly what happens to Brian when he plugs too many chargers into the same outlet. Mioara says I should call an electrician, but I say it's fine as is.

And it's not over! This weekend, the engineers are moving the show to Romexpo, where they'll set fire to four more houses: two with metal frames and two with concrete. It'll be a real reality show for construction enthusiasts. I'm thinking of going with Brian, so he can see what quality materials mean, not just watch TikTok.

Now, if I think about it, I'd build a house from fireproof wood, but Mioara says we better save money for the mortgage, 'cause for now the apartment is enough. But at least I know what to choose when the time comes.
