Bro, what do you know! UDMR just bolted from governing like it's Brian when it comes to homework. On Tuesday, at the Permanent Council meeting, they decided not to join the government and recommend their MPs not to vote for the investiture of the Veștea Cabinet.
UDMR deputy leader Csoma Botond said it straight up: they don't want to associate with the unaffiliated MPs from SOS and POT, nor with AUR. "After all the arithmetic calculations we've seen in the press, we saw that the votes of the unaffiliated, who come from SOS and POT, would be needed. We saw there are various attempts regarding AUR as well, and we didn't want to end up in the same boat with those unaffiliated deputies and senators from these parties," Csoma said.
Basically, they're scared of ending up like PSD, associating with extremists. Man, but this move leaves me speechless. I mean, UDMR, the party that's been in government so many times, now plays hard to get and shakes hands with AUR without saying it directly?
It's like me saying I don't want to drink beer with Mitică, but actually I meet him at Fane's terrace. And just like that, the government hangs in the air. Veștea needs votes, but if even UDMR doesn't support him, what chance does he have?
Probably now the backroom negotiations begin, with promises of ministries and positions. But me, I wouldn't count on UDMR. In the end, the final decision is up to the parliamentary groups, which will meet separately.
So maybe some will jump the fence. But for now, I'm off to tell Relu to stop dreaming about state contracts, because everything is on hold.
